Todays post is dedicated to a very good friend of mine Abdul Hakeem Ashiq J who is part of the silent audience but listens to and follows almost all posts put up under this series. On a casual chat the other day, he mentioned he loved Sufi and the song "Afreen" in particular.
“Afreen Afreen” sung by the great maestro Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan is a sincere depicture of the love one professes to a lover in the beautiful background of Sufi mysticism and is the absolute personification of beauty that words can bring. The words Afreen Afreen which are chanted through the entire course of the song mean “Behold! O the most beautiful one”. As the song unfolds one gets to know the creative side of the love portrayed in an unabridged confession which draws comparisons to various sights of beauty present in nature and long discussed fables.
