Playtime is probably the most eagerly awaited part of the day, for any child. But it is a matter of serious pondering for this particular child. He is torn between leaving his mother behind and the temptation to play outside with clouds and waves.

"The child suffers self-conflict when he comes to the realisation that if he gives into his curiosity and ventures out to discover the world, he will have to do so at the cost of his mother's warmth. Similarly, were he to choose his mother's warmth and affection, he will miss out on the adventures he could have,"

Who else could have brought out such profound emotions with such simple beauty but the great Tagore. Said to be set at a time when Bengal was under terrible political turbulence, giving a whole new dimension to the poem. The child here fears also for the safety of his lonely mother.
