By looking at your divine innocent face daily one can get more and more happiness. Maharishi Hanuman,, Sita, Indira, Devas, Purandara made their heart pure by looking at your ornament decorated form. Please include me also in that lot, you have attracted everyone alike!! Is it not beautiful to watch Sita blush and treat the lord like a new groom and stand dumbfounded. You gave salvation to five year old Dhruva who was ill treated by his stepmother, Will you not shower your grace on me?? I am fully confident that someday I will receive your grace.
The wearer of golden clothes! It is a an endless pleasure to see you
It gives great pleasure to see you and store your memory in the love and devotion filled heart
1. It gives immense pleasure to see the boundless divine greatness in your innocent face.
2. It gives immense pleasure to see the lord who is slyly watched by the sweet, shy and beautiful Sita Devi
3. It is a great pleasure to see the lord who wears clothes which have the color and shine of the morning sun; whose neck is adorned with garlands of precious stones whose eyes are like the lotus whose cheeks are beautiful and who wears a shining crown
4. Just like the great pleasure the unhappy Dhruva derived on meditating Shri Hari when he was scolded by very harsh words by his stepmoter. I derive pleasure in seeing you
5. It gives immense pleasure to see the lord- that wears the sandal tilak in his forehead and gave salvation to the dutiful warrior Jatayu. Did not Hanuman, the son of wind, swoon while telling about your greatness
6. You are the seat of joy. You are the whirlwind to the enemy hordes. You reside in the minds of great souls like Janaka you are like the Karpaga tree to your devotees, You have great orable qualities, You are boundless joy!! You are boundless happiness! You ride Garuda and wield Chakrayudha, your grace and kindness is like an ocean. You drive away fear, You are the prosperous leader of Raghukula.
7. Hanuman - who meditated on Ramanama: Narada, Parasara, Sukha, Saunaka, Purandara, Indira, Parvati and Sita are all witness to the great happiness derived by your devotees who surrender at your divine lotus feet most devotedly. It is a great pleasure to see the lord Sundareshwara (Siva) and Narayana, the lord who has the sea as his bed.
8. You are worshipped by the kind loving Thyagaraja, Your beauty squarely beats the beautiful moon. You are the given of boons. It is a great pleasure to watch you.
Tyagaraja was one of the greatest composers of Carnatic Music. He influenced the propagation of Carnatic music not only through his compositions but also through his disciples (shishya parampara). Most of his compositions are in praise of his favorite deity, Lord Rama. Most notable of his compositions are the Pancharatna (Five Gems) kritis in praise of Lord Rama. Every year, Tyagaraja Aradhana (Tribute to Saint Tyagaraja) is celebrated on Bahula Panchami (this year on Jan 9th), the day that he attained Samadhi.
The Pancharatna Kritis are
1. Jagadananda karaka – Nattai Ragam – Adi Talam –Sanskrit Language – praises lord Rama and all his deeds.
2. Duduku gala – Gowlai Ragam – Adi Talam – Telugu Language – requests Lord Rama to redeem the sins of Tyagaraja and help him attain Moksha
3. Sadhinchane – Arabhi Ragam – Adi talam – Telugu Language – praises the qualities of lord Krishna
4. Kana kana ruchi ra – Varali Ragam – Adi talam – Telugu Language – expresses his bhakti for Lord Rama and says how much his heart enjoys chanting the lord name everyday
5. Endaro Mahanubhavulu – Sri ragam – adi Talam – Telugu Language – written in praise of all the saints and musicians.

The kriti chosen for today is Kana Kana Ruchi ra in Varali. Though it is widely accepted to be the most beautiful and the most haunting of the 5 listed above, this composition is rarely taught and even heard in the concert circles.
Popular lore : There is a widespread superstition that learning the Varali ragam and hence this pancharatna kriti from a guru will lead to a misunderstanding between the teacher and the student, which in turn will cause the student to stop learning music. Many popular gurus refuse to teach this kriti to their students. This song is predominantly self-taught, i.e listening to someone sing it and memorized.
Early sishyas of Tyagaraja have said to have sung this kriti all by themselves in a separate room while their students would sit outside and try to memorize the nuances of the kriti. One of the greatest Carnatic musicians of our times, Semmagudi Srinivasa iyer is said to have faced away from his students while teaching them this kriti owing to this superstition.

Enjoy this song in the ringing voice of Dr.M.Balamuralikrishna.
