It's a fun song today!
Remember the excursions in schools? This is a time travel backwards! Imagine an excursion/picnic in school. Singing and dancing inside the bus was part of the fun. Surangani is one such song in Sinhalese but translated in different languages and that which has been passed on to generations next without even trying to understand what language it was. Who tried to find out the meaning ?

It was only Later I came to know that Surangani was a baila song Baila is a form of fast dance music famous in Srilanka and parts of India. Baila is derived from the word Bailar meaning dance. This was popular music where Portuguese influence was the most. Baila songs were composed in tamil also and some songs became very famous - the most popular one being "Surangani" which most of us would never have missed singing during our childhood days.
