The Wadali Brothers – Puranchand Wadali and Pyarelal Wadali – are Sufi singers born into the fifth generation of musicians given to singing the messages of Sufi saints, the Wadali brothers dabbled in the most unexpected of professions before they became Sufi singers. While Puranchand Wadali, the elder brother, was a regular in the wrestling ring for 25 years, Pyarelal contributed to the meager family income by playing the role of Krishna in the village rasleela. They do not charge their disciples, and lead a very simple life devoted to the divine one.
They believe in the Sufi tradition deeply. They have never indulged commercially, and they have only a handful of recordings to their name (mostly from live concerts). They believe in singing freely as homage to the divine one. They do not feel very comfortable in using electronic gadgets in their music, and stress on Alap and Taans. They believe that spiritual heights can only be attained if you sing unreservedly, in a free atmosphere.
Presenting one of their classic Sufi number - Tu mane ya na
Translation
The Lord and the follower belong to the same creed, they are but the same
Just the way clothes cover our body
the way our soul hides beneath the clothes, the skin
The same way, my Lord you are within your follower
You say, and make him do things, You make him come to you
Whether you agree or not
I made you my God
Tell me what God shall I pray for
I made you my God
I burnt my body ashes
Then I was able to reach the destination of my Love
The iktaara/instrument plays the tune of my breath
I made you my God
What is living without you,
Your home is my holy shrine
I will not bow my head anywhere else
I made you my God
I will bear all the sadness with a smiling face
If you agree, I will be yours forever
You have taught me my Love, what Love is
I made you my God
