December 2_KV

There could be nothing else more tormenting for a devotee than to be away from his Lord.
Kanakadasa, a harijan at a time when caste-ism was at its peak, was never given permission to enter temples. He yearns for a view of his Lord. He composed this with the help of his guru Vyasathirtha.
Ragam: Yamuna Kalyani
Talam: Misra Chapu

Krishna! Come Quickly!
To Show your face come quickly
Anklets on the feet,
bangles a sapphire treat,
Blue-hued one, come&dance, my sweet
On your waist a waistband
on your finger a ring grand
And around your neck a garland
Yellow Kashi Silk draped around,
flute in hand, not a sound
Divine sandal scent the body abound
Universe in mouth, mother shown As protector of worlds known
Udupi Sri Krishna, my own!
Here's UnniKrishnan's soulful voice perfect for the mood of the song...

The music associated with emotions such as pain grief sorrow is almost always sad & serious. This particular piece doesn't follow this convention. Though it talks of separation & a lover's woe, it's pleasant and almost soothing.
"Tum ko dekha toh" From the movie Saath Saath, a beautiful ghazal by Jagjit Singh.
Tumko dekhaa to ye khayaal aayaa
zindagi dhuup tum ghanaa saayaa
aaj phir dil ne ek tamannaa kI
aaj phir dil ko hamane samajhaayaa
tum chale jaaoge to sochenge
hamne kyaa khoyaa, hamane kyaa paayaa
ham jise gunagunaa nahiin sakate
vaqt ne aisaa geet kyuu n gaayaa

When I saw you I thought
Life's the scorching heat & you're the shade I sought
Today again my heart desired somethings
I tried to pacify it with sweet nothings
When you leave I'll ponder
What I've lost and gained I'll wonder
The tune I'm forbidden to even hum
Life sang such a song, how come
P.S. dedicated to all the lovely ladies and their handsome old hunks from yesterday's discussions wink emoticon
